Batana oil comes from La Moskitia, Honduras. La Moskitia is on the northeast side of Honduras on what is called the Moskito coast. It is a underdeveloped region of the tropical rain-forest.
The Miskito Indians are referred to as ” Tawira ” which means —> ” People of Beautiful hair! ”
Batana has been used for centuries by the indigenous people of la Moskitia for different medical and cosmetic purposes. The Miskitos use batana in their hair and as a body moisturizer. This is their secret in which they believe in so much, and are proud to call their “miracle oil”.
Each tree produces from 10-20 very large bunches of fruit each year, from which 2 to 4 liters of raw oil can be extracted! (Exactly why this is so rare and hard to find!)
The fruit is boiled and then pounded to remove the orange outer shell. The nuts are washed, sun dried and cracked using a stone to release the kernel. They are then cooked over fire until the oil is extracted.
It takes about eight thousand (8000) nuts to make 3.5 cups of batana oil can you imagine! 8000 nuts only make 3.5 cups of Batana Oil, Wow!
